For personal development I'm enrolled in captains school. This license is for anyone who transports passengers by water for payment. For un inspected vessels up to 100 gross tons, up to 65 ft (20m). We are learning the rules of the road. (Or water.) For international and inland waterways. This class is for 4 hours two weeks. Pretty extensive information for my use but with this credential I will have access out to 100 miles off shore.
We started out with 12 then down to 10. One student got sick, the other was a student that was overloaded.
Just FYI there are other costs.

Day shapes are like a new language. Sounds, bells whistles gongs, lights are used as universal language on international waters.
On Saturday we had our final exams. I believe 4 did not pass on the first attempt. It was 5 and a half hours and I passed. Yeah! What a good feeling. Time to get all the forms together for formal submission to the coast guard. Captain George will soon be at your service.
